Largest provider of retail-based medical clinics in the U.S. namely Minute Clinic has opened its First Walk-in Medical Clinics Inside CVS/pharmacy stores in Dayton and Cincinnati. The company is planning to open three more clinics, two in the Cincinnati area and one in Dayton. These clinics are anticipated to be opened over the next four months with additional locations in both markets likely in 2013.

The clinics will operate seven days a week, including weekday evenings and no appointment is required.  MinuteClinics introduced its first medical clinic in Ohio in 2006 and now has 33 walk-in clinics inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in the Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus and Dayton markets.

“MinuteClinic can help alleviate the severe primary care shortage that is expected to worsen over the coming decade in Ohio,” said, Andrew Sussman, MD, President, MinuteClinic and Senior Vice President, associate chief medical officer CVS Caremark Corporation.

Mr. Andrew also said, “We believe MinuteClinic can be part of the solution to help broaden access to high quality convenient and affordable health care services in Southwest Ohio and elsewhere in the state.”

The clinics are staffed by MinuteClinic nurse practitioners who specialize in family healthcare and can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses.

The MinuteClinic practioners make use of a software program that at the end of each visit generates an invoice, educational material, prescription for the patient and also the diagnostic record that can be sent through electronic health record, fax or mail  to a primary care provider with permission of the patient.

The MinuteClinic  walk-in medical clinics in Cincinnati and Dayton operate from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
