Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) was established in 1921 by the China Medical Board under the Rockefeller Foundation. The hospital is involved in significant research on vaginal malformation and operates the largest research database worldwide in this field.

The main research areas of focus at the centre include vaginal atresia, MRKH syndrome and oblique septum vagina.

Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital spans 173 acres, has 3,200 beds and 6,760 staff. Emergencies account for 70% of admissions, including an average of 160 gunshot wound victims per month. Annually, the hospital handles about 150,000 inpatient cases and 500,000 outpatient cases.

The hospital offers 3,500 beds and participates in infection control programmes, selection of disinfectants, control of sterilisation effectiveness and vaccinations. 


2. West China Medical Center of Sichuan University

China, Chengdu

The West China Medical Center of Sichuan University hospital stands out in this list with its exceptional beginnings. The hospital was founded in 1910 by Christian missionary groups from the UK and North America. In 1914, a medical school was added and it became the first institution in China to teach dentistry. Later in 2000, the hospital merged with Sichuan University and now operates with an impressive capacity of 4,300 beds.

The hospital specialises in liver donor transplants, lung cancer surgery, mini-invasive therapy, cardiac intervention, pancreatitis gastrointestinal surgery and more.
