A Guide to Anthropic's New AI Model for Healthcare Support

After OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Health feature, Anthropic has introduced Claude for Healthcare, which provides personalised health advice.
This expands on its previous model, Claude for Life Sciences, which focuses on the scientific research side of the healthcare sector.
Anthropic’s new model aims to support consumers with medical guidance, as well as healthcare providers.
How can Anthropic support healthcare?
Anthropic’s AI model, Claude, is built to help professionals with expert-level collaboration and insights.
It can assist with business strategy, content creation, software development and data analysis, among other uses.
When Claude was launched in March 2023, Anthropic said that the platform was capable of a wide variety of conversational and text processing tasks while being reliable and predictable.
Since then, it has grown in complexity and its tools have been adopted across many industries, including pharmaceuticals and life sciences.
Claude for Healthcare is a new range of tools for Anthropic’s AI chatbot, which is designed to improve healthcare access for patients and clinicians.
Eric Kauderer-Abrams, Head of Life Sciences at Anthropic, said on LinkedIn: “With our new models and product features, Claude can now collaborate from the early stages of fundamental research through clinical translation.
“We’re focused on amplifying what scientists can do by building tools that integrate into and accelerate existing workflows.
“The opportunity to accelerate progress is immense and we’re committed to making sure this transformation happens responsibly.”
Claude for Life Sciences
A core element of Anthropic’s public benefit mission is to increase the rate of scientific progress.
In October 2025, Anthropic announced Claude for Life Sciences, which aims to provide researchers with the tools to make new discoveries.
Claude can be used for tasks including citing and summarising biomedical literature, generating study protocols, processing and analysing genomic data and reviewing clinical and regulatory compliance data.
Anthropic has been working with a range of healthcare and life sciences organisations, helping benefit their operations using Claude.
These companies include Banner Health, Genmab, Edison Scientific, Heidi Health and Novo Nordisk.
Louise Lind Skov, Director, Content Digitalisation at Novo Nordisk, says: “We’ve consistently been one of the first movers when it comes to document and content automation in pharma development.
“Our work with Anthropic and Claude has set a new standard – we’re not just automating tasks, we’re transforming how medicines get from discovery to the patients who need them.”
What are the benefits of Claude for Healthcare?
The new Claude for Healthcare model allows healthcare providers, payers and consumers to use Claude for medical purposes through HIPAA-ready products.
Claude can support healthcare startups building new products and large enterprises looking to integrate AI into their operations.
The model can help with many healthcare tasks:
- Support claims appeals: Claude can collect patient records and clinical guidelines to help process and strengthen appeals
- Coordinate care and triage messages: Claude supports care teams with patient portal messages, referrals and handoffs, identifying what needs urgent action
- Support healthcare startups: With the Claude developer platform, startups can develop ideas using Claude to reduce time-consuming administrative tasks.
Claude for Healthcare can help consumers understand their health information and prepare for important conversations with clinicians.
The AI model can connect to patients’ health records to summarise their medical history, explain test results and detect patterns across data.
Dave Nolan, Enterprise Account Executive, Healthcare and Life Sciences at Anthropic, said on LinkedIn: “What matters most is building infrastructure for a different kind of healthcare.
“Where AI handles the administrative burden so clinicians can do what they trained for – helping patients thrive, ideally proactively, not just survive, reactively.
“The healthspan economy starts with removing friction from care.”
