Multi-year partnership will integrate glucose data from Abbott's Lingo bio-wearable into Google Health to increase metabolic health oversight

Rates of metabolic health issues are rising globally.

Prediabetes is one of the US’ fastest-growing health crises, impacting over 115 million American adults, with approximately 80% of sufferers unaware they are prediabetic.

Poor metabolic health can also lead to other chronic conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer.

To tackle this rising public health challenge and raise awareness of how nutrition, activity, sleep and stress can impact metabolic health, Abbott and Google Health have entered a multi-year partnership to integrate insights from Abbott's Lingo continual glucose moinitor (CGM) biowearable into the Google Health app with the help of AI technology.

"The biggest challenge in healthcare isn't treating disease - it's helping people stay healthier longer," says Olivier Ropars, Divisional Vice President of Abbott's Lingo business.

"Abbott's leadership in biowearables and Google's expertise in AI and consumer technology create a powerful opportunity to make personalised insights available at unprecedented scale.”

Improved personal health oversight

The Abbott-Google partnership is designed to bring accessible metabolic health insights to users’ personal devices.

Through the Google Health app, Lingo users will be able to view glucose trends alongside other health and wellness metrics, helping them better understand how daily behaviours influence overall wellbeing.

Google's Health Coach can then leverage these insights to deliver personalised, contextual recommendations designed to help users build sustainable habits related to nutrition, activity, sleep and recovery.

The partnership will focus on three key areas:
  • Connecting glucose data to a more complete picture of health
  • Delivering AI-powered, personalised health guidance
  • Establishing new science around metabolic health by conducting large-scale real-world studies

"The future of health lies in turning complex health information into personalised guidance that people can use every day," says Rishi Chandra, Vice President and General Manager of Google Health.

"Abbott and Google are creating a more complete picture of health that can help people better understand the connections between their daily habits and overall wellbeing. We have an opportunity to provide powerful, personalised health insights that can help people live longer, healthier lives."

AI research study

Abbott and Google will also conduct a large-scale research study aiming to better inform AI coaching available in the Google Health app and future Lingo product features.

“We are advancing metabolic health research through one of the largest real-world studies of its kind, generating new insights into the relationship between glucose and everyday behaviours,” explains Olivier.

“That research will help shape future AI-powered guidance and metabolic health innovation. Together, we can help people better understand their bodies and take action before health challenges become health conditions."

Making metabolic health insight accessible

For both companies, the partnership builds on ground already broken independently.

Lingo has been available since 2024 as an over-the-counter CGM for consumers not using insulin, helping users track glucose levels during exercise and daily life to inform their dietary choices in real time.

Google Health, meanwhile, has been applying its leading AI capabilities to a range of health-focused areas.

Integrating Lingo's glucose data into that ecosystem diversifies Google Health’s capabilities, while providing Abbott a far larger platform to reach consumers.

With Abbott bringing its biowearable and metabolic data specialisms alongside Google’s AI and distribution specialties, the partnership should mean metabolic health oversight becomes more accessible than ever before.
