Kedrion partners with JAGGAER to digitise procurement, boosting efficiency and strategic focus across its global plasma-derived pharmaceutical supply chain

Kedrion, a major name in biopharmaceuticals, crafts plasma-derived medications to treat rare diseases.

Following its 2022 merger with UK-based Bio Products Laboratory (BPL), the company has seen vast growth, evolving into a major global participant within a fiercely competitive environment.

In the landscape of pharmaceuticals, supplier management remains vital for success.

The landscape is notably complex as firms strive to balance economic sustainability, quality and ethical concerns.

In the plasma-derived sector, which Kedrion is part of, synthetic production poses particular challenges.

Progressive deployment

The partnership with JAGGAER commenced in Italy, home to Kedrion’s headquarters and three production facilities.

The implementation goal is to initiate digital catalogue management before extending this to supplier negotiation and onboarding processes.

This gradual rollout approach sees solutions implemented at Kedrion's Hungary site in Gödöllő, with plans to extend to subsidiaries in the US and UK.

Over the coming months, the programme will further integrate these entities.

Claudia Cristofani, Process and Systems Associate, Global Procurement at Kedrion, adds: "We chose JAGGAER as our partner for this procurement evolution journey because we immediately appreciated its flexibility.

"It is a platform capable of adapting to our needs and the requirements of a highly-regulated sector, demonstrating great adaptability across various processes."

Over the next years, Kedrion aims to broaden the project’s impact to encompass key subsidiaries worldwide.

The digital progression planned aspires to modernise procurement, boosting strategic capabilities.

Concluding vision

Kedrion forges ahead with a future-facing strategy that enhances its procurement division’s role in the evolving biopharmaceutical sector.

With the aid of digital enhancements, the firm is set to refine how it serves healthcare needs on a global scale.

Simone Fornai, Global Procurement Senior Director at Kedrion, says: "We believe that efficient procurement doesn't just focus on costs, but adopts a vision that, in line with the company's ultimate goal, aims to meet the therapeutic needs of patients better.

"From this perspective, the role of procurement is to source quality products that optimise the company's performance. I want to emphasise that, while digitalisation is indeed an urgent need for every company today, it is equally true that people continue to make a difference, as technology alone is not enough."
