Nokia and BeeHealthy: Simplifying Digital Healthcare Access

As healthcare providers increasingly move appointments, consultations and patient services online, securing digital access without creating friction for patients is becoming a growing priority.
In response, Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia is working with BeeHealthy to address this challenge through network-based verification, replacing traditional SMS one-time passcodes with authentication that occurs seamlessly in the background.
The commercial agreement marks the first healthcare customer for Nokia’s Network as Code platform, creating a new use case for programmable network APIs while giving BeeHealthy a way to strengthen security across its digital healthcare services.
“Digital healthcare depends on making access both simple and secure. By integrating Nokia’s network-based verification into our platform, we can give customers a faster, more seamless experience while strengthening trust for the providers and insurers we serve,” says BeeHealthy CEO Oskari Eskola.
- Technology: Nokia Network as Code.
- Use case: Network-based identity verification.
- Key change: Replaces SMS one-time passcodes.
- Healthcare reach: Europe and Middle East.
- First: BeeHealthy is Nokia Network as Code's first commercial healthcare customer.
Removing friction from digital healthcare
The partnership brings together Nokia’s telecommunications infrastructure and BeeHealthy’s digital healthcare platform, which is designed to give healthcare organisations a configurable way to deliver patient and professional services.
Owned by Mehiläinen, one of Europe’s leading private healthcare providers, BeeHealthy operates as a white-label software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform.
Its customers span healthcare and veterinary care providers, social-care organisations and insurers, with deployments across Finland, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, the Netherlands and the United Arab Emirates.
Nokia’s Network as Code platform provides a single interface that lets enterprises access network capabilities from participating operators and integrate them directly into their applications.
For BeeHealthy, this creates an opportunity to embed network intelligence across its patient and professional applications, with verification available at key points, including login and booking.
According to Nokia, the process typically takes less than a second, removing the need for users to manually retrieve and enter an SMS code.
In a post on LinkedIn, BeeHealthy writes: “For our customers, this means a simpler and more secure front door to the digital care services they offer. For their patients, it means better user experience, security and one less step between them and their care.”
Multi-sector use cases
For Shkumbin Hamiti, Vice President of Network Monetisation Platform at Nokia, the BeeHealthy agreement demonstrates how network capabilities can become commercial services for enterprises, rather than remaining confined to traditional telecommunications.
“Network as Code turns network capabilities into commercial services that create value across the ecosystem. ”
“This collaboration shows how Network as Code turns network capabilities into commercial services that create value across the ecosystem,” Shkumbin says.
He adds that the model could extend beyond healthcare, with Nokia already identifying opportunities across sectors including finance, mobility and digital commerce.
For operators, the growing adoption of network APIs therefore presents a potential new revenue stream by making their infrastructure directly accessible to enterprise applications.
A testbed for future healthcare uses
The Nokia-BeeHealthy partnership also points to potential applications for network APIs beyond number verification in healthcare and beyond.
Nokia and BeeHealthy are integrating SIM swap/number recycling capabilities to help identify changes that could affect patient account records, while location verification can support appointment-management use cases and reduce the number of missed appointments.
The companies are also exploring KYC (Know Your Customer) match for identity validation during onboarding in selected markets, alongside quality on demand for latency-sensitive services such as video consultations.
