Dr. Craig Samitt, CEO of Healthcare Partners, will step down from his position on Aug. 1, according to a report by Modern Healthcare.

The Torrance, California-based division of DaVita HealthCare Partners, Inc. has announced Kent Thiry, co-chairman and CEO of DaVita, as Samitt’s replacement. Thiry will work in tandem with the Office of Chief Medical Officer.

Samitt began working at HealthCare Partners in August 2013 as executive vice president. He was named CEO in March. A reason for his departure was not mentioned by the company.

“I will miss working with the talented physicians, staff and management that created and will sustain the HealthCare Partners legacy,” said Samitt in an issued release. “The company is well positioned to continue to transform population health in the United States.”

Before joining DaVita, Samitt was CEO of Dean Health Systems in Madison, Wisconsin. He also serves as a member of the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission with his term ending in April 2015.

“I want to thank Craig for his contributions during his time here,” said Thiry. “He is a strong CEO and we wish him the best in his future endeavors.

Dialysis company DaVita closed a deal to purchase HealthCare Partners back in 2012 for an estimated worth of $4.7 billion, according to Modern Healthcare. The deal was a strategy to transform DaVita into a company capable of providing and coordinating a broader continuum of care.

DaVita is a leading provider of kidney care in the United States, delivering dialysis services to patients with chronic kidney disease and end stage renal disease. As of March 31, DaVita Kidney Care operated or provided administrative services at 2,098 outpatient dialysis centers. HealthCare Partners currently provides integrated care management for nearly 795,000 managed care patients.
