The Prestigious Building Better Healthcare Awards are run annually to celebrate and recognize outstanding innovation and improvements in the healthcare sector, and attended by over 500 representatives from the NHS and healthcare industry.
The six main categories include Building Design, Patient Experience, Estates and Facilities Management, Sustainability, Technology, and People. There are also three awards chosen by the judges from across categories – Clinician’s Choice, Patient’s Choice and Grand Prix Healthcare Building Design.
Ascom won the Best Communication Award for its solutions for Benenden Hospital in Kent, Chase Farm Hospital in London, and the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
“We’re of course honored and delighted to receive this recognition. The shift towards single-room hospital layouts – together with rising patient expectations – is making full speech mobile communication solutions the obvious choice. Moreover, making it possible for mobile staff to stay in touch with patients can really help boost workflow efficiency”, commented Paul Lawrence, Ascom’s Managing Director in the UK.
Lead by its CEO Holger Cordes, Ascom Holding AG has subsidiaries in 19 countries and a workforce of some 1600 employees worldwide having wireless solutions and mobile network testing as its main focus.
The solutions integrate Internet Protocol nurse call systems with patient monitors and monitoring alert systems. Messages, calls, alerts and requests are made mobile – going to clinicians’ wireless devices such as the Ascom Myco. The BBH Awards judges were particularly impressed by the solutions’ speech capabilities and their ability to directly link clinicians and patients. “This is a great concept,” the judges remarked, “providing direct-to-nurse communications for patients and other staff”.
Founded in 1987, Ascom (ASCN) has revenue of 410.8 million Swiss Francs, the equivalent to roughly 390 million Euros. Publicly traded on the SIX Swiss Exchange (SWX), its shares have shown a continued trend line to the upside, with a few mild swings along the way, since the beginning of 2013, having increased its share value in an astonishing 147%.
