Catching the mobile health fire, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield recently committed to joining the mHealth bandwagon by moving towards becoming more user-friendly in the healthcare technology realm in their partnership with Cognizant. This partnership will allow for CareFirst, one of the largest global insurance providers, the ability to better manage, understand and communicate with their customers and patients. Benefits from this integration can be seen in their ability for doctor/patient communication, but beyond that, this is just the beginning of what is yet to come for these industry leaders as they begin to break the surface in this technological dive.

Cognizant is an established mobile communications company keen on looking for the most innovative and user-friendly ways of keeping their clients and patients informed, in change and equipped with all of their necessary health-related information. Cognizant reassures CareFirst with their partnership that their patients will receive “quick and convenient” ways to manage doctor/patient interaction and communication, insurance and office claims, billings and payment information, manage their health coverage by providing 24/7 access, on any device, to their respective patients. Patients can rest assured that their insurance and healthcare providers alike are rising with the current times into the higher “cloud” based technological sphere, and that they will not be left in the dust with an outdated healthcare provider. By connecting to personal mobile devices, CareFirst knows that is the most direct and user-friendly way to insure that their product is being used to its greatest potential.

"The ubiquity of smartphones and tablet devices, while rapidly changing customer expectations and operational needs, presents a powerful direct link for us to connect with our members and for our members to better manage their health care”, says Fox, senior vice president for technical and operational support services at CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield.

Cognizant will enable CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield to give patients the ability to exert control over their daily healthcare means, while still giving them their esteemed confidentiality, great customer service and wide-based accessibility that the company was built upon. By deciding to rise to the mHealth calling by their patient public, CareFirst will be benefiting from Cognizant’s services in hopes of maintaining their positioning as a healthcare giant.

"We are pleased to be working with CareFirst," said Krish Venkat, executive vice president of Cognizant’s Healthcare and Life Sciences practice. "With our deep expertise in SMAC (social, mobile, analytics and cloud) technology architectures, we look forward to conceptualizing, architecting and implementing next-generation mobile capabilities for CareFirst to help transform the way the company engages with its members."
