Informatics Merseyside has selected specialist software company NDL as its partner to create mobile working applications which it will offer to its client trusts.

The deal also presents significant opportunities for both Informatics Merseyside and NDL. NDL now works with more than 60 healthcare companies.

The software team of NDL will allow Informatics Merseyside’s in-house development team to design and build bespoke apps and also ensure that they are fully integrated with back-office systems.

The apps, which will be viewable on smartphones and tablets will enable the remote clinical staff to view and update patient records during or immediately after the consultation and also obtain the latest medical advice and protocols.

The data is collected with the consent of patients, encrypted and kept in accordance with both Government and Informatics Merseyside’s standards.

Stephen Appleton clinical informatics lead for the Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention ICT programme at Informatics Merseyside said, “We chose to work with NDL because they have a strong track record in the healthcare sector and their technology offers the flexibility we needed to deliver mobile working solutions very effectively. “

Mr. Appleton also said, “The benefits of agile working are immense. More flexibility, efficient working practices, increased time with patients and reduced travel times will increase the quality of healthcare provided and will repay the investment in developing service specific apps.”

Bernie Cuthel, Chief Executive for Liverpool Community Health, NHS Trust where the project will be first implemented said, “LCH is passionate about utilizing new technology to improve the quality of care delivered, empower patients, and deliver efficient services, which will be even more important as we look towards growing future demand.”

Informatics Merseyside is an NHS shared service providing information, management and technology services to NHS Trusts. It also provides services to stakeholders including Royal Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Trust Liverpool Heart & Chest NHS Foundation Trust, Mersey Care NHS Trust, Aintree University Hospitals NJS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Community Health NHS Trust, NHS Merseyside, Merseyside Commissioning Support Service, Walton Centre for Neurology NHS Foundation Trust, Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust, Southport and Ormskirk Hospitals NHS Trust, Liverpool Deanery, Central Operations Merseyside, Mersey Internal Audit Agency and the National Prescribing Centre.
