Innovative healthcare company NeuroMetrix, Inc. has partnered with Pacific Northwest-based Premera Blue Cross to pilot the new Quell wearable device to treat pain relief.

The innovative collaboration will allow Premera to provide Quell devices to selected employees suffering from chronic pain. In addition, the pilot will assess employees’ response to the technology as well as its impact on their pain and quality of life.

A recent study revealed 81 percent of Quell users reported an improvement in their chronic pain.

"We are excited to partner with a major health plan on this pilot," said NeuroMetrix president and CEO Shai N. Gozani, M.D. "We believe that this initiative could show the value of providing this drug-free, cost effective technology for employees suffering from chronic pain conditions that affect their quality of life and productivity.”

Using advanced wearable technology, Quell utilizes NeuroMetrix’s neurostimulation to provide relief from chronic pain. The lightweight device can be worn while being active during the day, as well as while sleeping at night.

Located in Waltham, Mass., NeuroMetrix was founded as a spinoff from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology in 1996. The company develops wearable medical devices and point-of-care tests to help patients and physicians manage chronic pain, nerve diseases and sleep disorders.
