Amazon's vision for health is one that is affordable & convenient. Together, One Medical & Amazon Prime are a prescription for better healthcare

Amazon is reportedly considering merging One Medical’s healthcare service with its Prime subscription programme - which provides members with access to various exclusive services.

Improving the healthcare experience

Founded in 2007 and headquartered in San Francisco, California, One Medical, believes in delivering top-quality and accessible healthcare and wants to build a system where quality care is affordable for everyone. It was acquired by Amazon in July 2022.

“Booking an appointment, waiting weeks or even months to be seen, taking time off work, driving to a clinic, finding a parking spot, waiting in the waiting room then the exam room for what is too often a rushed few minutes with a doctor, then making another trip to a pharmacy – we see lots of opportunity to both improve the quality of the experience and give people back valuable time in their days,” said Neil Lindsay, SVP of Amazon Health Services. “We love inventing to make what should be easy easier and we want to be one of the companies that helps dramatically improve the healthcare experience over the next several years.”

Now, it looks like Amazon has found a new way to advance its healthcare offerings by combining it with Prime - which offers delivery benefits, access to Prime Video and Amazon Music, eBooks and student discounts.

Making healthcare affordable with Amazon

Sunita Mishra is the Chief Medical Officer for Amazon Health Services. In leading Amazon Pharmacy, Amazon Clinic and One Medical, she is on a mission to ‘make it dramatically easier to find, choose, afford and engage with healthcare services, products and professionals needed to get and stay healthy’.

This new development in Amazon’s healthcare journey is a natural next step.

“We have learned a lot in the years that we’ve been dabbling in health care,” said Mishra. “It’s now made us more confident that we’re on the right track.”
