Allianz Partners’ Report looks at generational health and chronic disease awareness
Allianz Partners’ Generational Health Insights report examines the need for public education and patient empowerment to enhance quality of life

Insurance and assistance service Allianz Partners has launched the Generational Health Insights report and docuseries. This will provide an insight into three main healthcare topics: Living well, mental health and digital health. The report also includes data from other studies, citing the relevant data and findings.

The Generational Health Insights report aims to explore how to better meet the healthcare needs of today and how to meet the wellbeing needs of future generations, in a sustainable way.

The key findings from the Generational Health Insights report

Allianz Partners is a world leader in B2B2C insurance and assistance, offering global solutions for international health and life, travel insurance, mobility and assistance. Its experts redefine insurance services with future-ready, high-tech high-touch products and solutions. In over 70 countries, Allianz Partners’ 22,600 employees manage 72.9m cases each year.

Key findings from the Generational Health Insights report showed:

  • The proportion of older age-groups is increasing globally. 1 in 6 people will be 60 years old, or over, by 2030. The risk of getting a chronic disease increases with age. The study showed that the idea of living to a very old age was not welcomed  by all, unless they could continue to have a good quality of life.
  • When it comes to
  • Chronic (non-communicable) diseases kill 41m people each year. The study showed a strong lack of awareness around what these diseases are and how they can be prevented. Allianz Partners sees an opportunity to educate and empower people to take control of their health and improve their quality of life.
  • 47% of Gen Z (those aged 12 to 26) shared that they ‘often’ or ‘always’ feel anxious. 22% added that they ‘often’ or ‘always’ felt depressed. The study reflected the fact that mental health is now cited as almost more important than physical health. Allianz Partners believes that support for mental health needs to be taken as seriously as physical health concerns and tailored to at-risk populations.
  • There was a 6,500% increase in prescribed mental healthcare apps in 2024. However, research shows that there will still be a role for human healthcare professionals in regards to personal interactions and diagnoses.

Allianz Partners believe that health insurers, health organisations and governments have a duty to build trust around how personal health data will be used and explain what the benefits will be, before they reap the full benefits of a health ecosystem and more efficiently linked health data.

Allianz Partners empower people to make decisions for their healthcare

Mariana Ishchuk, Global Head of Product Management & Innovation at Allianz Partners’ health line of business said that the company was delighted to be able to share the thoughts of their contributors on the key health topics, alongside the insights and expertise of Health Economist Joe-Max Wakim.

“This report reinforces what came out of our States of Mind health report last year. It emphasises the need to focus on preventive care, the improvements that could bring to people’s long-term quality of life and the positive impact it would have on reducing the strain on national healthcare systems,” she said.

However, Mariana admitted that there was more work to do, especially in empowering people on the decisions which impact their health.

“Helping to build a health ecosystem which improves access to quality care is an important part of our vision,” she continued. “This report shows that being transparent and responsible around how health data will be used must be an important pillar of that strategy.

Mariana also shared that she was excited to see the growth and uptake in digital health services, something Allianz Partners has been investing in for many years, particularly in the support of mental health.

“By putting a greater emphasis on preventive care, tailoring mental health support to at-risk populations and harnessing the potential of digital healthcare and data responsibly, we can continue to make strides in improving health today as well as influencing the wellbeing of future generations,” she added.
