AXA Health has named former Bupa, Allianz Partners and Cigna Healthcare senior medical executive Anne Lepetit as its Chief Medical Officer

Anne Lepetit has been named AXA Health’s next Global Chief Medical Officer as the organisation undergoes a series of strategic shifts.

AXA is Europe's largest health insurer – and AXA Health is the group’s specialist business serving the international health and life insurance market.

Increasingly, the company is repositioning itself from a traditional financial “payer” to an active health “partner” and growing its portfolio of global healthcare facilities.

As the company’s international medical lead working closely with AXA Health CEO Alain Zweibrucker, Anne will play an integral role in supporting the company’s strategic transition.

Announcing her position on LinkedIn, Anne writes: “Since my early years as an emergency physician, one conviction has guided my career: healthcare transformation only matters if it leads to better care and better outcomes for patients. That starts with improving the care journey for both patients and the clinicians who deliver the care every day.

“This is the conviction I now want to bring to AXA, as the Group continues its transformation from a traditional health insurer into a true health partner, with more than 80 healthcare facilities worldwide.”

Anne also discusses the key focus areas of her position, which “include strengthening clinical governance by consolidating quality of care and patient safety, supporting the development of AXA’s healthcare activities, and accelerating clinical innovation, prevention and Value-Based Care.”

At Allianz Partners, she oversaw international health, medical assistance and virtual care, managing 200 doctors and nurses and teams handling 720,000 cases annually.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, she advised Allianz SE’s Group Crisis Unit on health strategy and staff safety, while also leading medical crisis responses and developing clinical guidelines and hospital audit programmes internationally.

From traditional payer to healthcare partner

Anne’s appointment comes as AXA Health and the wider AXA group seek to redefine their role in healthcare, moving beyond the traditional insurer model towards becoming a more active partner throughout the patient journey.

In AXA’s 2025 Integrated Report, Alain Zweibrucker, CEO of AXA Health, outlines how the business intends to achieve this transformation, identifying three strategic priorities.

The first is to build on AXA’s technical expertise by bringing together its technologies and tools, using AI to improve health benefits management and fraud detection while maintaining competitive prices.

The second is to expand its network of healthcare facilities, which includes medical centres, diagnostic centres, clinics and hospitals. By owning more of the infrastructure through which customers access care, AXA aims to exercise greater control over clinical quality and costs.

Finally, the group wants to broaden access to high-quality healthcare, providing customers with timely services and greater support throughout their care journey.

Ultimately, the goal is “to establish AXA Health Business as a centre of excellence in health insurance, so that we can continue to improve our service to customers and address imminent challenges while asserting our position as a leading global health specialist,” explains Alain.
