Jonathan Rose Named Sustainability Chief at Bupa APAC

As Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer, Jonathan Rose will lead Bupa APAC’s communications, public affairs, and sustainability efforts

Starting in November 2026, experienced executive Jonathan Rose will become Chief Corporate Affairs and Sustainability Officer at Bupa APAC, reporting to CEO Nick Stone and joining the organisation’s executive leadership team.

Jonathan succeeds Roger Sharp, who has joined Australian Red Cross Lifeblood as Chief Corporate Affairs and Governance Officer.

Diverse industry experience

Jonathan will lead communications and engagement, public affairs, media, external relations and sustainability, drawing on extensive experience across the Asia-Pacific region.

In previous roles, he has advised organisations on complex issues, reputation management and periods of significant change, working closely with governments, investors, media and communities.

His career spans industries including automotive, telecommunications, sport, banking, healthcare and mining, with previous roles at General Motors, Telstra, Cricket Australia, NAB and a previous position at Bupa between 2016 and 2017.

Most recently, he led communications in Australia for Rio Tinto, an international mining corporation. 

Jonathan continues: “Working at a company of Rio's size and scale, operating in some of the most remote places on earth, has given me a perspective I couldn't have gained anywhere else.”

  • AU$12.9bn (US$9.3bn) revenue: Bupa APAC revenue increased 6% in 2025.
  • AU$947m (US$681.6m) underlying profit: Underlying profit rose 10% year on year.
  • Bupa provided healthcare to more than 11 million people across Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.
  • Customer numbers increased by 400,000 during 2025.
  • Bupa paid AU$6.65 billion (US$4.47bn) in hospital and extras benefits to Australian customers.

Executive leadership hiring

Jonathan’s appointment follows another new executive leadership team member joining Bupa APAC in August 2026, with Jayant Krishnan appointed Managing Director of Bupa Villages and Aged Care Australia (BVAC).

Previously, Jayant was Finance Director of Bupa APAC’s BVAC division, and has more than 15 years of experience at Bupa.

Change at Bupa’s aged care portfolio

Bupa APAC is also reportedly considering the sale of a significant portion of its aged care property portfolio in Australia and New Zealand, which totals 57 properties. The sales could generate up to AU$2bn (US$1.43bn) in funds, while occupancy across its aged care homes reached 95% in 2025. 

The sales follow an announcement from the company made in March 2026 that it would invest AU$1bn (US$717.46m) in refurbishing its aged care portfolio.
