Netcompany’s UK Country Managing Partner Richard Davies says the £215m (US$290m) partnership with NHS England will deliver earlier diagnosis outcomes

NHS England has appointed Netcompany as the digital delivery partner behind its adult screening programmes.

The partnership, beginning in September 2026 and valued at £215m (US$290m), is designed to deliver earlier diagnosis and faster treatment, says Netcompany.

Screening helps identify people who may be at increased risk of a particular condition before they develop symptoms.

The NHS invites around 15 million people annually to attend screening appointments, with programmes including bowel, cervical, lung and breast cancer screening, heart screening and a range of screening services during pregnancy.

A track record of success

The NHS chose Netcompany in part due to this history of success in the public sector, says Netcompany’s UK Country Managing Partner Richard Davies.

He explains: "We brought a track record of delivering national healthcare and screening programmes across the UK and Europe, and we already run mission-critical digital services for the NHS and UK government that millions of people rely on.

“Replacing national systems on this scale, while screening carries on uninterrupted for every citizen, is one of the hardest engineering challenges in government. It is the work we are built for.”

Central to the partnership is retaining NHS sovereignty over its screening services and technology, with all technology UK-built and controlled by the NHS.

Richard emphasises that the partnership marks a shift away from partnerships relying on a single international provider, and instead involves an ecosystem of companies working in unison to deliver world-class, preventative screening services.

“These services are built and controlled here in the UK, and they are owned by the NHS,” he explains.

Everything here points at earlier diagnosis and faster treatment, which is another way of saying it is designed to save lives.

“Behind that sits a genuine UK supply chain: at least 33% of the contract's value goes to British SMEs, and our Screening Innovation Fund opens the door to smaller and first-time suppliers. Critical national infrastructure of this kind should not rest on a single global provider, and this partnership is a deliberate move away from that model."

UK-based partners involved in delivering services with Netcompany include dxw, Create Change and Adroc, as well as Softwire as a scaling partner.

New services for NHS patients

Building on the transformation already delivered by the NHS’ digital prevention teams, the partnership will focus on making screening easier to access and more responsive to individual needs.

Touching on the changes patients may notice as the partnership progresses, Richard says: "Everything here points at earlier diagnosis and faster treatment, which is another way of saying it is designed to save lives.

“We are building a new national breast screening service and an enhanced cervical screening service that invites people digitally and posts an HPV self-testing kit to their home, which speaks directly to the ambition of eliminating cervical cancer.”

The partnership is also designed to improve access to underserved groups who may have traditionally struggled to enter the screening service.

“Over time, screening becomes personal rather than something aimed at broad population groups, with real attention paid to communities the system has historically underserved. For the public, that means less waiting between an invitation and a result, and far fewer reasons not to take part,” says Richard.

Part of wider NHS strategy

The appointment forms a key part of the NHS Digital Prevention Services Programme (DPSP), supporting the government’s wider ambition to shift the NHS from treating disease to preventing it through earlier detection.

It signals that digital technology and transformation will be central to its approach, helping identify disease sooner, improve access to screening and target interventions towards those most at risk.
