NVIDIA, Anthropic, Pharma Chiefs Invest in Basecamp Research

AI-designed therapeutics are a big deal in pharmaceutical investment circles, with Basecamp Research’s oversubscribed US$140m Series C financing round offering another clear indication of the momentum building in the space.
Venture capital firm S32 led the investment, with backing from major technology and pharmaceutical firms, including NVIDIA and Anthropic through its Anthology Fund.
Further participants in the funding round include: Catalio Capital Management, European Tech Collective, Firebrand River Capital, ATO Innovation Fund, Redalpine, The Rockefeller Foundation, Singular and True Ventures.
Sovereign AI, the UK's state-backed, AI-focused venture capital fund launched in April 2026, was also involved.
Highlighting the widespread interest in the firm, additional investment also came from senior leaders from across pharma, biotech and global industry, including André Hoffmann, Vice-Chairman of Roche, who says: "The biotechnology revolution that began fifty years ago transformed how we make medicines. Personalised, AI-designed therapeutics represent the next transformation of that journey.
“Basecamp Research has built the full platform to deliver it, from biological data to trained models to designed therapies. This will be key in helping the industry to continue to innovate."
- US$3.5bn – approximate assets under management at S32.
- US$517m – raised for S32’s sixth flagship fund earlier in 2026.
- US$140m – size of Basecamp Research’s oversubscribed Series C, led by S32.
- Andy Conrad – S32 General Partner and former CEO of Google’s Verily, who is joining Basecamp’s board.
- 2017 – S32 was founded in 2017 by Bill Maris, the former CEO of Google Ventures.
The EDEN project
A key focus for the funding will be training the next generation of EDEN models and advancing Basecamp’s pipeline of AI-designed therapeutics towards clinical development.
Headquartered in London, Basecamp Research is applying its biological foundation model, EDEN, to in vivo cell therapy, with the aim of reprogramming a patient’s cells directly inside the body.
Existing cell therapies can be highly complex and costly to manufacture, with some treatments costing hundreds of thousands of dollars per patient.
The company is combining EDEN’s ability to design long, complex DNA sequences with large serine recombinases, which can precisely integrate these sequences into the genome.
Basecamp says the approach could enable more sophisticated and personalised cell therapies while simplifying their delivery and manufacture, with potential applications across cancer, autoimmune disease and other conditions.
On LinkedIn, following the announcement, Emma Bolton, VP of Global Research at Basecamp, writes: “With this funding, we can focus on our goal of training our EDEN models on evolutionary data from our global biodiversity partnerships and clinical data from our in-house Science team" as the company leverages AI to "accelerate the development of curative medicines for genetic disease.”

World-leading training data
Training the EDEN models is a groundbreaking dataset built in collaboration with some of AI’s biggest names.
At the heart of Basecamp Research’s AI platform is the Trillion Gene Atlas, which the company describes as the world’s largest proprietary biological AI training dataset.
Developed with partners including NVIDIA, Anthropic, PacBio and Ultima Genomics, the Atlas brings together biological data collected through access and benefit-sharing partnerships spanning more than 30 countries and all seven continents.
This data is used to train Basecamp’s EDEN models to identify patterns across a vast range of previously unseen biology. Rather than focusing on a single scientific application, the models are designed to build a broader understanding of how DNA functions across different forms of life.
That foundation enables EDEN to generate potential therapeutic candidates from information about a disease.
The approach has already been explored through Basecamp’s collaboration with Anthropic on Claude Science, while the models can also be applied to the design of cell and gene therapies, enzymes and peptides.
