Shashanka Muppaneni Named Danaher Chief Strategy Officer

Life sciences and diagnostics company Danaher has announced changes to its strategy leadership team as it prepares for a broader transition at the top of the business.
Effective 1 October 2026, Shashanka Muppaneni will become SVP and Chief Strategy Officer, moving from his current role as Group Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for Danaher’s Diagnostics platform.
The appointment comes as Julie Sawyer Montgomery prepares to take over as Danaher’s President and CEO on the same date. Julie, who has led the company’s Diagnostics platform, has played a key role in its growth, with the business increasing from approximately US$6bn in revenue in 2017 to around US$11bn in 2025.
Julie says Shashanka “pairs sharp strategic thinking with a pragmatic, results-oriented approach,” adding that he has demonstrated an ability to align strategy with business execution, deliver strategic M&A and build partnerships across Danaher’s businesses.
“He will be a strong partner as we accelerate Danaher’s strategy and M&A agenda in the years ahead,” she says.
Danaher generated US$24.6bn in revenue in 2025 and operates across biotechnology, diagnostics and life sciences. Its portfolio includes businesses such as Cytiva, Beckman Coulter, Cepheid, Leica Biosystems and Masimo, spanning drug development, biomanufacturing, diagnostics and patient monitoring.
Deep strategic and healthcare experience
Shashanka brings almost two decades of experience across strategy, healthcare and life sciences to his new role.
He began his career in finance and strategy-oriented positions at Thomson Reuters and Microsoft before moving into healthcare-focused roles at Smiths Group and Upsher-Smith Laboratories.
- US$24.6bn — Danaher’s full-year revenue in 2025.
- US$10bn — Annual revenue of Danaher's Diagnostics business in 2025.
- US$9.9bn — Value of Danaher’s 2026 acquisition of Masimo.
- 1 October 2026 — Shashanka Muppaneni becomes Chief Strategy Officer.
- 2024 — Year Shashanka joined Danaher’s Diagnostics business.
He subsequently held two positions at Boston Consulting Group, including Managing Director and Partner, as well as roles with life sciences companies including Illumina and Seer.
Shashanka joined Danaher in 2024 to lead Strategy and Business Development for the Diagnostics platform, where his remit included strategic planning and M&A.
His tenure has included Danaher’s acquisition of Masimo, a specialty diagnostics and patient monitoring company. Danaher completed the US$10bn transaction in June 2026, adding Masimo as a standalone operating company within its Diagnostics segment.
His experience in healthcare strategy and transactions is likely to be particularly relevant as Danaher continues to reshape its portfolio and identify opportunities for growth.
Brad Gray to step down
Shashanka’s appointment coincides with the departure of Brad Gray, Danaher’s current SVP of Strategic Development.
Brad has played a leading role in streamlining Danaher’s strategy and M&A approach and supporting the deployment of more than US$10bn in capital since he joined in 2024.
On LinkedIn, following the announcement of his departure, Brad writes: “These past two years shaping Danaher's strategy and M&A agenda have been amazing. I am proud of what our BD and Strategy teams accomplished together, from acquiring Masimo to laying out Danaher's enterprise strategy for the future. Thank you to this amazing team for the trust, partnership and hard work.”
He will remain with the company in an advisory capacity until March 2027.

Danaher prepares for leadership transition
The changes to Danaher’s strategy leadership come as the company prepares for a broader executive transition.
Julie will become President and CEO on 1 October 2026, succeeding Rainer Blair, who has led the company since 2020. Rainer will retire from the role and remain with Danaher as a senior adviser until 31 March 2027 to support the transition.
Danaher has also announced that Heathre Moler will become Chief Human Resources Officer from 1 October 2026.
The leadership changes come as Danaher enters its next phase of growth following a strong 2025. The company reported full-year revenue of US$24.6bn, up 3% year-on-year, while its acquisition strategy remains an important component of portfolio development.
With Shashanka taking responsibility for corporate strategy and M&A, Danaher’s leadership team will be tasked with building on that momentum while continuing to identify opportunities across its biotechnology, life sciences and diagnostics businesses.
