Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, new ways for evaluating physician performance have made waves throughout the industry from both seasoned companies and industry startups. This new push towards providing patients with new ways of evaluating patient performance follows two current industry trends: accountability and patient engagement.

MediQuire, a recently introduced startup company, has plunged into this market with a tool that tracks clinicians using measurements such as Medicare measures, guidelines standards and comparing performance relative to physician’s peers. CEO of MediQuire Klaus Koenigshausen discussed his approach and company mojo at Blueprint Health’s demo day, where data analytics proved to be the key to unlocking the company’s highly-anticipated success. The program thrives off of data analytics to generate helpful insights about physician performance in order to determine areas for improvement and better regulation. The company also provides quality educational content, cultivates peer-to-peer accountability and communication and overall cost improvement initiatives.

“The current system of chart reviews is not personalized and it’s not tied to an action plan,” Koenigshausen said.

With the goal of this program to reduce patient complications and readmissions, and increase data analysis and physician accountability, the question remains of how exactly hospitals will choose to use this information. Will it be effectively used by physicians? Does it increase the fear of malpractice? The debate wages on as we continue to monitor this ongoing healthcare trend, and wait to see how the industry chooses to respond next.
