Schneider Electric Powers Healthcare Facilities with Solar
Schneider Electric, a global leader in digital automation and energy management, operates in over 100 countries, serving thousands of customers worldwide - as well as healthcare patients. The company not only empowers others to enhance their sustainability through improved energy efficiency but also leads by example in its commitment to environmental stewardship.
In its pursuit of sustainability, Schneider Electric has implemented various clean energy initiatives to reduce its own environmental impact and support various healthcare facilities.
The company's efforts have yielded promising results, as evidenced by its October 2024 announcement, which confirmed that Schneider is on track to meet its ambitious sustainability goals set for the year 2024. This progress demonstrates the company's dedication to driving positive change both within its operations and across the broader industry landscape.
Hybrid solar systems serve approximately two million people in Kenya, Nigeria and India
“Our achievements this quarter showcase the scale of our impact, with local projects playing a pivotal role in achieving our ambitious goals,” says Xavier Denoly, Schneider Electric’s Senior Vice-President of Sustainable Development. “Despite these great results, our work is far from over. We must further intensify our global decarbonisation efforts to mitigate the effects of climate change, benefiting people and the planet.”
Schneider Electric has surpassed its ambitious goal of providing reliable, green energy to 50 million people by the end of 2024, achieving this target ahead of schedule. This accomplishment is particularly significant given that nearly 700 million people worldwide still lack dependable access to energy, let alone clean energy sources.
The company has made substantial progress by implementing solar power solutions in public facilities across Africa and India. In Kenya, Nigeria and India, Schneider has installed innovative hybrid solar systems in health clinics, benefiting approximately two million people. Additionally, in India, the company has supported the electrification of over 700 schools with clean energy, positively impacting the learning environment for around 120,000 students.
Building on this success, Schneider is now focused on expanding its efforts with the ambitious goal of supporting a cumulative total of 100 million people by 2030, since the programme's inception in 2009.
In parallel with its energy infrastructure initiatives, Schneider has made significant strides in education and skill development. The company has already trained more than 763,000 individuals in energy management, as part of its commitment to fostering learning and development across generations. Looking ahead, Schneider aims to extend this training to 1 million people by 2025 and plans to double the opportunities it provides for interns, apprentices and recent graduates.
Furthermore, Schneider Electric, in collaboration with its foundation, has partnered with Enactus, an experiential learning platform. This partnership supports university students from 10 countries in developing entrepreneurial skills focused on the energy transition, further demonstrating Schneider's commitment to nurturing future leaders in sustainable energy.
Schneider Electric measures its sustainability with the Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) Scores
Jeanne Laurence, Youth Education & Entrepreneurship Program Officer at Schneider Electric, said: “This initiative is closely aligned with Schneider Electric’s Youth Impact Through Learning initiative, aimed at upskilling youth to shape a just energy transition. It also actively champions gender equality by integrating young girls into educational training initiatives.”
By using the Schneider Sustainability Impact (SSI) Scores, Schneider Electric can measure progress on its long-term commitments to the planet. These are a measurement from one to 10, of how well the company is performing in sustainability. Schneider’s goal was to reach a SSI score of 7.4 by the end of 2024 - it reached a score of 7.29 in October 2024.
“I’m really proud that our Schneider Sustainability Impact score for Q3 shows that we are well on track to meet our 2024 ambitions,” said Gwenaelle Avice Huet, Executive Vice President of Europe Operations and Member of the Executive Committee at Schneider Electric. “I’m proud to be leading the development of our sustainability program, and want to thank everyone in our business who contributes to us being able to make a positive impact in our communities. Our work continues!”
