Newmont Mining partners with Project C.U.R.E to provide medical supplies
Newmont Mining Corporation has announced a three-year agreement with Project C.U.R.E to deliver $8 million in medical supplies, including training for health care providers, to assist the organization in providing life-saving initiatives to developing countries.
According to Mining Global, the partnership will see the US-based mining company contribute $200,000 a year for the next three years as well as provide health care knowledge, experience and contacts to care providers in countries such as Ghana, Indonesia, Peru and Suriname.

As part of the agreement, Newmont employees will also volunteer with the organization to gather and pack medical supplies, including providing those traveling to targeted countries with 50-pound C.U.R.E kits for donation at local health facilities.
“This partnership has really been a full integration of both of our organizations,” said Dr. Douglas Jackson, President/CEO of Project C.U.R.E. “The goal is to create infrastructure improvement, so that the whole system gets better. We want the employees at Newmont, the stakeholders and all the communities around the mine sites to be healthy.”
Newmont has worked with Project C.U.R.E for the past 11 years, contributing a total of $1.2 million to the organization’s global health care efforts and assisting in a wide array of initiatives, including:
• Delivering nearly $9 million in medical supplies and training for health care personnel in Ghana, Guinea, Haiti, Indonesia, Peru and Suriname
• Donating critical support - including protective gear, isolation facilities and thermal scanners - to help combat the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in West Africa
• Providing supplies for wound care and medical examinations at health facilities in Haiti during the cholera outbreak
• Supporting neonatal resuscitation training as part of a "Helping Babies Breathe" program, and sponsoring a four-day medical clinic for nearly 1,000 people near Newmont's operations in Ghana
• Providing medical supplies to six health care facilities in Suriname near Newmont's Merian project
Established in 1987 by James Jackson, Project C.U.R.E (Commission on Urgent Relief and Equipment) is dedicated to bridging the health resource gap around the world by empowering doctors and nurses in developing countries with the tools needed to treat diseases, provide vaccines, and perform surgeries and delivery safe childbirth.
