Novant Health is dedicated to high quality and high service for its patients. A US$169mn bed tower will be completed in 2025 for the growing community

In order to continue to provide high quality care to patients, Novant Health has announced a US$169mn investment to build a new bed tower at Novant Health Matthews Medical Centre.

By 2025, Novant Health will dramatically expand its patient care reach

The expansion will:

  • Add 150,000 square feet to Matthews Medical Centre
  • Renovate 50,000 square feet of existing space
  • Raise the bed count to 174, supporting the needs of the rapidly growing Matthews community

The project also includes a surgical services area with seven operating rooms, three endoscopy rooms, post-anesthesia care unit and an ambulatory care unit.

In addition, there will be three cardiac procedure rooms, including cardiac catheterisation and vascular interventions, in addition to expanding the kitchen, pharmacy, materials, carpentry, patient access and respiratory care.

Novant Health shared a rough timetable:

  • 2022: The project will begin
  • 2024: The new 24-bed medical-surgical nursing unit
  • 2025: All construction will be completed this summer

High healthcare quality and top patient experience ratings

Staff at Novant Health are excited to see expansion to help support the needs of the local community and to see the patient experience enriched.

“The investment by the Novant Health board into the future of Matthews Medical Centre is a testament to the high quality, high service that this team has provided over the last 27 years, highlighted by our recent Leapfrog A and CMS 5-star rating”, said Jason Bernd, president and chief operating officer of Novant Health Matthews Medical Centre.

Last month Novant Health received a top score in the Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2021 Hospital Safety Grade scoring period. National nonprofit, The Leapfrog Group, evaluates the patient experience provided by hospitals across the USA.
