Orange Boosts Life Science Portfolio With Biolevate Funding

French telecommunications giant Orange has announced an investment in French health-tech start-up Biolevate as it looks to strengthen its presence in the life sciences sector and support innovation within the French technology ecosystem.
The investment was made through Orange Ventures, the Group’s investment arm, which supports high-growth companies in strategic areas including data and AI, digital enterprise and e-health.
Orange’s funding forms part of Biolevate’s second financing round and bolsters the company’s position within the French technology ecosystem. Biolevate was selected for the 2025 French Tech 2030 programme, which supports companies developing technologies considered strategically important to French technological sovereignty.
The company has also been supported by Future4Care, a European healthcare AI ecosystem co-founded by Orange.
Biolevate’s agentic AI platform
Biolevate specialises in knowledge-driven automation for life sciences, developing technology designed to accelerate the journey from drug discovery to patient access.
The company’s agentic AI platform captures, structures and operationalises validated scientific and regulatory knowledge, deploying AI agents to support complex activities across the healthcare innovation lifecycle.
These include drug R&D and clinical operations, as well as market access, health technology assessments, literature reviews and regulatory activities.
Explaining the company’s principal focus, Joel Belafa, CEO of Biolevate, says: “Our mission is to reduce the time between a potentially life-saving discovery and the moment it reaches patients. We do this through knowledge-driven automation for life sciences, paving the way for faster therapies through trusted AI agents.”
According to Orange, Biolevate’s technology is already delivering up to 50% faster time-to-market for selected pharmaceutical processes, helping to reduce the time between the discovery of a potentially life-saving treatment and its eventual availability to patients.
- €350m (US$398m) – assets under management across Orange Ventures’ investment activities.
- 2015 – year Orange Ventures was established.
- 100+ – companies backed by Orange Ventures since its inception.
- 3 – strategic investment areas: data & AI, digital enterprise and e-health.
Integrating Biolevate into the Orange ecosystem
Alongside the investment, Orange Business will work with Biolevate to combine its agentic AI capabilities with Enovalife’s clinical research, data and AI transformation expertise.
An Orange Business affiliate, Enovalife works with pharmaceutical customers to streamline the drug lifecycle while addressing operational costs, regulatory requirements and wider transformation challenges.
The partnership is designed to help pharmaceutical organisations move beyond AI experimentation and integrate the technology into operational workflows.
Claire Scotton, Vice President, Healthcare and Life Sciences at Orange Business, says Biolevate’s approach was a key factor behind the investment.
“Biolevate stood out as its technology goes beyond AI performance, delivering trusted, governed workflows into the highly regulated pharmaceutical industry,” she says.
“Combined with Enovalife’s pharmaceutical expertise and customer relationships, we see an opportunity to turn that technology into practical solutions across clinical, regulatory, medical and safety activities. The long-term goal is to create a model for trusted adoption that is scalable across Europe and the US.”
Biolevate and Enovalife will initially focus on high-value clinical-development use cases where digital transformation and operational integration are critical to adoption.
“Biolevate stood out as its technology goes beyond AI performance, delivering trusted, governed workflows. ”
These include automating clinical trial protocol development and clinical study reports, as well as regulatory bridging, where documentation and compliance requirements need to be adapted across different jurisdictions.
The companies will also look to help pharmaceutical organisations scale AI initiatives while maintaining control over governance, operational integration and ongoing costs.
A critical health infrastructure player
The investment in Biolevate adds to Orange’s growing exposure to healthcare and life sciences, with the company positioning trusted and secure digital technologies as a key part of its wider strategy.
For Orange Business, Biolevate adds another layer to this offering by bringing AI-driven capabilities into some of the sector’s more complex operational and regulatory processes.
“This investment is a natural extension of what Orange Business is already doing across healthcare and life sciences,” Claire explains.
“More than 3,000 healthcare organisations and the world’s 30 largest pharmaceutical companies already trust us to support their digital transformation, from secure infrastructure and cloud to cybersecurity and data.
“Through Enovalife, we can now address some of the industry’s most complex use cases with trusted and traceable AI. Ultimately, this strengthens our role to help customers turn AI into something they can use responsibly and securely across areas such as pharmaceutical R&D.”
